Our Waste Water Analysis is used to test and monitor waste water effluent waste, to determine its quality before being discharged into the sewer system.

This test can indicate what level of treatment of waste water generated by a site is required before discharge.

The structure and properties of metals are subject to change depending on the type of processing during manufacture and the working and environmental conditions the metal operates in. 

The information gained from Metallurgical Testing can be of great value when examining components particularly when being stripped or rebuilt. Komatsu Condition Monitoring Services (CMS) can facilitate quality, rigorous Metallurgical Testing to meet customer requirements. 

Positive Material Testing (PMT) is a form of Metallurgical Testing that analyses metals to identify the quantities of each element included in its composition.

PMT can be used for both material verification and identification and is normally included when a component is being tested for its structure and properties. Komatsu CMS has the capability to identify many materials using its Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) capabilities and can also facilitate PMT to meet customer requirements.

Komatsu CMS has acquired a state-of-the-art instrument - the Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). With SEM, we're able to  have massively increase our capabilities in identifying contaminants in fuels, oils, coolants and in the environment.

This instrument works by scanning the object surface with a focused beam of electrons. The electrons interact with atoms in the sample, producing various signals in the form of x-ray that gives information about the surface topography and composition of the sample. The key feature of SEM is that it can take clear images at up to 110,000 times magnification. With the clear images produced by SEM at high magnification, modes of wear (e.g. cutting wear, fatigue, sliding, abrasive, adhesive, cavitation, corrosion, erosion wear) can be clearly identified, and this is extremely beneficial for root cause and failure analysis in mine and construction machines.

Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) is used to identify defects such as cracks, wear and overheating without causing any physical damage to the part.

A wide number of NDT processes can be utilised including Liquid Penetrant Testing (LPT), Thermal/ Infrared Testing (IRT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT) and Magnetic Particle Testing (MPT).

LPT, IRT and MPT can be carried out at our service and Reman workshops around Australia and New Zealand. Komatsu CMS can also organise all other forms of NDT at the request of the customer.

X-ray fluorescence (XRF) is a non-destructive analytical technique used to determine the chemical composition of materials.

During the analysis, the analyser emits a direct x-ray beam at the sample which absorbs the radiation and in turn emits secondary radiation (a fluorescence of x-rays). Each element in the sample produces characteristic fluorescent x-rays that is specific for that element. The XRF peaks with varying intensities that are present in the XRF spectrum. The peak energy identifies the element whilst the peak intensity measures its concentration.

XRF analysis can be performed on oils, coolants, filtered material and greases. 

XRF, ICP and SEM analyses can be used in combination to identify wear debris, contaminants and additives in lubricants and filters.

Komatsu CMS’s thermography service uses both temperature distribution and absolute temperatures to identify possible issues with your equipment.

Some of the faults that are identified through thermography testing include loose or corroded electrical connections, dragging brakes, misalignment, failing bearings and other heat sources.
It is a non-contact and non-intrusive process that can be used on its own or to back up the results of other Komatsu CMS condition monitoring techniques, such as vibration analysis and oil analysis.

Thermography can quickly narrow down the focus of inspections to identify areas of concern.

Komatsu CMS’s Vibration Analysis (VA) service is the process of reviewing the vibration levels of rotating machinery. These include engines, transmissions, bearings, alternators and electric motors fitted to mechanical and electrical drive trucks and loaders as well as hydraulic excavators and electric shovels and draglines.

Using VA, our analysts can identify equipment faults ranging from defects in bearings and gears to imbalance, mechanical looseness, misalignment and resonance.

The process uses a VA data collector and sensor to record and analyse vibration signals as either amplitude versus time or amplitude versus frequency.

This process can be used both reactively, to troubleshoot a poorly performing machine, as well as proactively, to catch issues before they cause significant downtime.

VA is quick, non-intrusive, inexpensive and provides detailed and comprehensive information about a very wide range of faults.
